The earth and turf

At the dawn of civilization.

In the southern countries such as Greece, Italy, France, snow and ice for cooling products and drinks were prepared high in the mountains. In the middle lane, like ours, ice was used, formed in the cold winter months of the year. He was sawn into blocks and he was placed in the so-called glaciers-cellars-bribes. In order not to melt the ice, it was hidden by a thick layer of straw, sawdust, spruce or pine needles. The cellars were under the thick cover of the earth and turf, which served as a beautiful natural heat insulator. Such primitive devices kept cold for hot summer months. At the same time, people had the opportunity to maintain perishable products for a long time. It was a way developed by centuries -old practice.
